The Cemetery was named after the stand of Black Walnut trees throughout the cemetery area. The black walnut tree is at the front of the cemetery and is recognized as the specimen Cemetery Walnut. This tree is the largest and oldest tree at the cemetery (estimated 100+ years old and was probably present prior to the first grave). This tree is near the road on the lower portion of the cemetery. The cemetery was started in the early 1900‟s. The first grave in this cemetery was in 1904 and was the grave of Mary Ethel Moon (2.9.1903 – 7.1.1904).
